Biography

Chief Michael P. KitchenFerndale Chief of Police Michael P. Kitchen has worked for the City of Ferndale in various capacities since 1969 and began with the Police Department in 1975, recently completing 31 years of service.

  • Life-long Ferndale resident, currently residing on W. Cambourne
  • Married 31 years to wife Meri

Both Mike and Meri are products of Ferndale Schools, K-12, as are their two grown daughters, Michelle and Maryn who also own homes in Ferndale. Michelle is a police officer and Maryn is a paralegal and both are married.

Chief Kitchen has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Oakland University, a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Wayne State University, is a graduate of the Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, the F.B.I. National Academy and the F.B.I.'s Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.

Besides attending to Chief's duties, Mike is a pilot and avid boater who enjoys those hobbies as well as outdoor sports and fitness related activities.
